by Philip Coppens On October 31, 2005, news agencies across the world ran a story that announced that Bosnian businessman Sam Osmanagic had discovered pyramids in the town of Visoko, a town near the Bosnian capital of Sarajevo. Seven years later, the Bosnian Valley of the Pyramids has become the largest archaeological excavation site in the world. It has also become one of the most controversial archaeological discoveries, largely due to the fact that Western archaeologists and Egyptologists have found themselves sidelined – some of it entirely self-imposed. For people who want to control our understanding of history, it is a position which they hate to be in.
The pyramid complex is located in the town of Visoko, where the Pyramid of the Sun rises to a height of over 220 meters (the Great Pyramid measures 147 meters). According to the Bosnian Institute for Geodesy, the pyramid has the most precise orientation towards cosmic north, with an error of 0 degrees, 0 minutes and 12 seconds – the most accurate alignment of all pyramids discovered so far.
Two other pyramid structures, known as the Pyramid of the Dragon and the Moon, together with the Pyramid of the Sun form a perfect equilateral triangle, the distance between the top of two pyramids measuring as 2,173 meters. There are also further series of alignments between some of the sites in the valley, specifically one that goes from a temple structure on top of a hill known as Ginje. From here, one can see the Pyramid of Love, which is capped by the Pyramid of the Sun, clearly a purposefully sought-out visual effect by our ancestors. When one extends this line, however, one also reaches the Ravne tunnel complex, where an entire complex of corridors has been discovered, some of which leading into the direction of the Pyramid of the Sun, and thought to lead into the interior structure of the pyramid. Two tunnel complexes, the so-called KTK Tunnel and the Labyrinth of Ravne, have been found. Since 2006, over 800 meters of tunnels have been discovered in the Ravne complex. Originally, most of these tunnels were found to be filled in, but in 2012, two sections of tunnels – one measuring over 40 meters long – were discovered that were clear of debris. At the same time, a small lake and an underground river were also found.
In the open sections of the tunnel, evidence of fire making, as well as clear signs of tool markings, ditches and circular openings in the sides were found, revealing clear evidence of a human presence. Another story that has come to the forefront is that of the medieval Queen Katarina, who during an attack of the Ottoman Empire was able to escape from the medieval town that can be found on top of the Pyramid of the Sun. Her escape, however, was planned by using one of the tunnels which the archaeological team are clearing. It confirms stories told by locals how, until some decades ago, the children of Visoko were able to access part of this tunnel system from within and around the town. Indeed, the Ravne complex was discovered when Osmanagic asked local children whether they were aware of local underground tunnels, at which point they brought him to Ravne.
The megalithic stone K2 in the Ravne Labyrinth As the tunnels are cleared, a number of large stone blocks have been found inside. In August 2008, “K2” was uncovered during the first international scientific conference. At the time, it was clear that this large stone was carefully positioned on a stone below it and the various scientists attending the conference could inspect the stone personally. Once cleared, K2 was weighed in at eight tons. This megalith has since been identified as being a composite, with its top layer ceramic. It consists of two layers, a base measuring 30 cm and a top layer of 10 cm. Analysis has indicated that there is an oval object located between both layers and that K2 is located exactly above the crossing of two underground rivers. It therefore is clear that these stones were carefully positioned to work with some of the geological features of the area.
One key feature of the Ravne tunnel complex is that even at 220 meters from the entrance, the air quality is pure, which is remarkable. Indeed, the air and temperature remains constant and fresh throughout the system, which has been identified as part of the design features of this complex, whereby a difference in the height of sections of the complex means that air is continuously pushed around the complex. Other measurements have shown a tremendous increase in negative ions, reaching levels of up to 40,000 ions 200 meters inside the complex. As the tunnel complex is making its way towards the pyramid, it is speculated that the engineers purposefully created a complex whereby those entering it would be slowly but surely subjected to changing physical conditions, which would have an effect on the human body, before they would reach the interior of the pyramid complex itself. Though there are still many hundreds of meters to dig before the Ravne complex reaches the Pyramid of the Sun, geo-radar analysis of the pyramid has uncovered a series of tunnel complexes inside the structure, which move inside the structure in the shape of a spiral. When sections of top soil were removed from the Pyramid of the Sun during the first year of excavation (2006), it revealed a surface of large rectangular stone blocks. Analyses in Bosnia (Institute for Materials) in 2006-8 and Italy (Politecnico di Torino) in 2009 have identified these stone blocks as man-made, with noted properties of being extremely hard (up to 133 MPs) and having low water absorption (around 1%). According to the Federal Institute for Agro-pedology the soil on top of this stone layer has accumulated over a period of ca. 12,000 years. Radiocarbon dating from the paved terrace on the Bosnian Pyramid of the Moon, performed by the Institute of Physics of Silesian Institute of Technology from Gliwice (Poland) indicated that the terrace was built 10.350 years ago (+/- 50 years).
Seven years in, there is a body of evidence that demonstrates that these pyramids are manmade and extremely old – far older than any other pyramid culture discovered so far. This in itself should not be that surprising for this area was once home to a civilization which historians refer to as Old Europe, a culture that is dated to ca. 6000–3000 BC. Ravne Tunnel Complex In 2012, many people have heard about the existence of the Bosnian Pyramids, but when you use Google, it will quickly bring you to pages such as Wikipedia, which quite straightforwardly proclaim that the pyramids are natural formations. The reason for this is that since 2006, Western archaeologists have maintained a vociferous and vile campaign against the project, at one point led by Anthony Harding, of the University of Exeter, UK, who proclaimed as president of the European Association of Archaeologists that if any of his members were “caught” working on the pyramid complex, he would make sure they would never work again.
The First International Scientific Conference, Bosnian Valley of the Pyramids (ICBP) was held on 25-30 August 2008, and had the participation of the likes of Dr Alaa Shaheen, archaeologist and Dean of the Faculty of Archaeology at Cairo University, Dr Hassan El-Saady, historian and Vice Dean of the Faculty of Arts at Alexandria University, Dr Mostafa El-Abbadi, founder of the modern library in Alexandria (the Bibliotheca Alexandrina) and Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Aly, Egyptologist and archaeologist in the Faculty of Arts at Ein-Shams University, Cairo. Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Aly is currently Egyptian Minister of Antiquities. Despite such prominent attendance, skeptic Doug Weller has proclaimed that the ICBP is not a scientific conference and should be seen as being on par with the conferences organized by creationists and somehow has been granted the power by the Wikipedia site to make sure that no results of this scientific conference appear on the Wikipedia entry!
Originally, Osmanagic also received vociferous opposition from some – though not all – local universities, who also felt sidelined. Since, the attitude is slowly beginning to change. Indeed, in 2012, Senad Bahor was allowed to attain his Master thesis on the Bosnian Pyramids, involving a 4D visualization of the Bosnian Valley of the Pyramids. Though the thesis is not in the least controversial, it is a step in the right direction, revealing that the attitudes are changing. Indeed, from several Bosnian authorities there are now statements for people to “wake up” and see what is happening in Visoko.
Despite attempts to derail the project, for the last seven years, Osmanagic – who himself has a Ph.D. – has steadily continued to work and excavate, making, as mentioned, the project the largest archaeological excavation in the world. During that period of time, most of the scientists and universities involved have come from Eastern Europe and Russia, all of whom have confirmed that the pyramids are manmade. But for the past few years, Osmanagic has also begun his search for the reason why the pyramids were built, resulting in several novel insights and discoveries.
In 2007, Dr. Harry Oldfield measured the Bosnian Pyramid of the Sun with his special camera equipment that visualizes aspects of light (energy) that are normally invisible to the naked eye. Whereas these flows of energy are normally horizontal, Oldfield discovered that on the Pyramid of the Sun, these energy flows were vertical. Three years later, Slobodan Mizdrak Ph.D., a physicist from Demiurg Zagreb and a member of the SBR Research Group, was measuring energy patterns on top of the Pyramid of the Sun and confirmed the initial observation made by Oldfield. Specifically, on April 12, 2010, Mizdrak discovered that from the top of the Pyramid of the Sun, there was a 28khz energy beam, 13 feet in diameter, that was continuous and focused in nature. The beam has since been confirmed by others, including Goran Majanovic, an electrical engineer.
Paolo Debertolis, a professor from the University of Trieste working with Mizdrak, was able to confirm that this energy beam consisted of ultrasound and that its size varied between 5-6 to 15-20 meters, depending on the seasons and the weather. He noted that there were five peaks that were spaced at 9.333 Hz, i.e. that this beam is constant.
Mizdrak returned to Visoko in April 2012. His latest findings suggest that the pyramid acts like the feed horn of a satellite dish. The dish itself, which reflects energy to and from the feed horn, is a metal plate, which is at a depth or a height of 2440 meters, 410 meters outside of the central axis of the pyramid. As there is no such metal plate floating in midair, Mizdrak’s conclusion is that this metal plate is deep inside the Earth, at a depth of 2440 meters. This layer of iron may be, or is even likely to be, completely natural and it is likely that the pyramid was positioned here so that it could work with this subterranean plate.
Intriguingly, the strength of the beam was identified as being stronger as one moved further up from the pyramid, which is highly unusual as usually, the strength is closest to the source. This means that the pyramid is either the recipient of this beam, or that the energy beam is somehow composed differently than standard energy beams. Dr Ivan Simatovic has proposed that this beam is actually a type of resonator, using Non-Hertzian waves, while Osmanagic has seen links with some of the technology that Nikola Tesla invented at the start of the 20th century. In 2012, the archaeological team under the direction of archaeologist Dr Riccardo Brett submitted a sample from Sonda 4A from the Pyramid of the Sun, taken in June 2012, for carbon-dating analysis to the University of Kiev. The results gave a date of 24,800 BP +/- 200 years. At this moment in time, it is only one carbon dating result, so the results need to be augmented with more samples. Though 22,000 BC might seem an impossible date for a pyramid to be built in Europe, it is an era when elsewhere in Europe, e.g. France, our ancestors were working in the caves of Lascaux and other subterranean structures of the Dordogne, seeking contact with the divine. That elsewhere in Europe, our ancestors would be tunneling and building pyramids, should therefore not come as an impossibility. Specifically, there is nothing about the Bosnian Pyramids Complex that suggests our ancestors could not have created this 24,000 years ago.
In 2012, the archaeological teams also began excavations at new sites. On the Pyramid of the Dragon, large stone slabs were found, which might turn out to be similar to the coating of the Pyramid of the Sun. On top of the Temple of Mother Earth, a Neolithic settlement was found. New Zealand archaeologist Tim Moon spent most of the summer mapping this settlement. He found a staircase as well as an outer, potentially defensive, wall. Moon is convinced that this Neolithic settlement postdates the pyramid building culture, but equally underlines that in Neolithic time, he has found evidence that there was a substantial to large human presence in this area, which would have been able to provide this community with everything they needed. His latest findings are therefore further evidence of the presence of the culture of Old Europe in this region.
Much work has been done over the last few years, but everyone is aware that much more work is required. It will take several more years before the Ravne tunnel complex reaches the Pyramid of the Sun. Exposing the original layer of the Pyramid of the Sun is almost an impossibility. But everyone involved knows that each spade that is put in the ground, reveals more evidence of the manmade nature of this site and brings everyone closer to an understanding of why this complex exists. And hence, the digging will continue, and more answers will be found.
