Made By Survivors sponsors 150 child survivors and kids born into brothels to attend school, many for the first time in their lives. Some of these children have been enslaved in brothels for sexual exploitation, before being rescued and sent to aftercare shelters. Others were enslaved for industrial work, on farms, or as domestic servants. Some are the children of slaves, growing up in red light areas and at high risk for being trafficked themselves. FOUR FACTS ABOUT HUMAN TRAFFICKING 1. There are approximately 27 million slaves around the world. Around half of trafficking victims in the world are under the age of 18. 2. The average cost of a slave around the world is $90. The average cost of a slave in the United States in the first half of the 19th century is the equivalent of $40,000. 3. Approximately 80% of trafficking involves sexual exploitation, and 19% involves labor exploitation. 4. More than 2/3 of sex trafficked children suffer additional abuse at the hands of their traffickers. You can sponsor a child survivor of slavery for a full year of top quality education! Education will change the sponsored child’s life forever, offering her or him a future free from slavery and exploitation. A card acknowledging and describing the gift will be sent to the recipient. Your Sponsorship Gift Pays For: – school fees,

– and either room and board in shelters or boarding schools, or afterschool support and tutoring services for children living with their families. DO’S AND DON’TS What We Don’t Do: Unlike many other school sponsorship programs, who use as much as 50% of sponsorship donations for administrative fees, Made By Survivors uses 100% of sponsorship fees for the children’s education. Our overhead costs are covered by the sale of products Made By Survivors and by a foundation grant. What We Offer Sponsors: Photo and profile of sponsored child, narrative reports from site visits, cards from sponsored children, and progress updates or report cards as available.
